With Paolo Sorrentino's 'This Must Be the Place recently added to the Sundance line-up, a new trailer has been released for it and I still can't figure out what it's aiming for. Much of the film's buzz has centered around Sean Penn as a former rock star, heavily made-up, with a fritzed out wig. For good reason, when you first him it can be pretty jarring. He plays a guy who desperately wants to find the man who tortured his recently deceased father while a prisoner at Auschwitz. Yep, Sean Penn: Nazi Hunter.
While the exact tone is pretty hard to pin down, I'm getting a Jim Jarmusch/Charlie Kaufman vibe off of it. If that's true, this could be great. Or it might be a disaster. The supporting cast features Frances McDormand, Judd Hirsch, and one of my personal faves, Kerry Condon. Check out the trailer below...
