Two new images from 'The Avengers'!

Hot on the heels of the new footage we saw in the German trailer for The Avengers, Marvel has released a couple of new images, showcasing Captain America(Chris Evans), Thor(Chris Hemsworth), and Iron Man(Robert Downey Jr.). I think it's been interesting watching the marketing for this film and The Dark Knight Rises, both expected to be two of the biggest superhero movies of all-time.

Christopher Nolan, despite a recent bombarding of material between the trailer and 6-minute preview, has managed to keep the story largely in secret. What we've seen has only increased anticipation, and maintained the finale's epic feel.

The Avengers? Well, Marvel and Joss Whedon seem to know what people are here for, and that's just to see a bunch of guys in costumes blow shit up.  While there is some mystery to the actual plot, nobody seems to care because whoever the villain is, the story isn't going to be particularly deep. Does it really matter if the Avengers battle the Skrulls, the Kree, or a thousand Frost Giants? Not really. As long as they look cool getting punched into the next stratosphere by The Hulk, then that's all that matters.

The Avengers rolls into theaters on May 4th!
