If we're going to be hammered by multiple Snow White flicks within a few months of each other, at least the first two are wildly different takes on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Snow White and the Huntsman looks like Lord of the Rings-lite, while Tarsem Singh's Mirror Mirror looks like a histrionic soap opera bathed in cake batter. Could turn out to be awesome, or it may be a disaster. It's hard to tell at this point, but one thing I love already is getting a chance to see Julia Roberts playing someone truly awful, in contrast to her squeaky clean image.
Two new posters for Mirror Mirror have been released, and what they tell me is that the film is clearly banking on Roberts being the selling point. She's featured in both as the evil Queen Clementianna, even though it's Lily Collins who is ostensibly the central figure as Snow White. Armie Hammer, Nathan Lane, Sean Bean, and a bunch of dwarf actors you've never heard of round out the cast.
In the race to be the first Snow White film out of the gate, Singh was forced to rush production. A huge mistake, if you ask me, and the trailer we saw didn't seem totally finished. It lacked the usual Tarsem Singh pizzazz. We'll see how the completed product turned out when Mirror Mirror opens on March 16th. [Emileeid.com]
