'Paranormal Activity 4' gets a release date; Schulman and Joost to return?
Paranormal Activity 3 turned out to be a bigger hit than I think Paramount ever could have imagined, especially coming off the somewhat disappointing critical response to the previous film. Part of the big reason for that success the addition of Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who put their knack for documentary-style filmmaking to good use. The duo previously helmed that other Facebook movie, Catfish.
With Paramount announcing that a fourth installment of the horror franchise is on the way, they've now provided a release date of October 19th 2012. These movies don't cost much and don't take a long time to shoot, so the relatively short timeframe shouldn't be an issue. The only question left was who would direct, with some saying that Joost and Schulman might possibly return. BloodyDisgusting is now reporting that this appears to be the case, with the duo coming back to helm what was far and away their most lucrative venture.
It makes sense on both counts. Series creator Oren Peli has been the one constant on the horror franchise thus far, and now Paramount gets a little more continuity with Joost and Schulman coming back. The Paranormal Activity franchise has earned over $570M thus far.
