Has Ralph Fiennes' role in 'Skyfall' been revealed?

The producers of Skyfall, the next James Bond flick coming out later this year, have done an admirable job keeping things secret up to this point. One of the bigger mysteries surrounding it has involved the role of Ralph Fiennes, who joined months ago as a character they would only describe as "complex". Fiennes has since stated he would be a government agent of some sort, but really, that's not much of a descriptor. It's far more trouble than it's worth to coordinate the hiding of secrets like this, so there had to have been a good reason, and now it appears we've found out what all the fuss was about.

A source inside EON Productions has let loose a few details to Movieweb, and one of them is a serious spoiler, so if you want to remain in the dark, take this opportunity to do something else.....

"Ralph Fiennes play's a government agent, which we never get a name on, because he is set to play the new M."

Seriously? So what about Judi Dench, who has been playing the head of MI6 since Goldeneye? A further expansion of the plot reveals her possible fate...

Skyfall centers around M (Judi Dench) where her past forces her to leave as head of MI6, and find a new M. The board of MI6 then turns to a government agent (Ralph Fiennes) to take over. M (Dame Judi) is now forced to train the new head of MI6."

What we've heard is that Sam Raimi's film would be more of a stand alone effort, but I'm not totally sold on that. I have a feeling M's past will still find a way to be incorporated into the overall Quantum storyline told in the last two movies, and she'll probably end up dead by the end of this one. Just a thought.  Or, Fiennes could turn out to be a traitor and Dench turns up as the hero. Nah, she'll probably die.

Skyfall is set to open on November 9th!
