Lindsay Lohan to play Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime Original Movie

Somebody out there really thinks of Lindsay Lohan as some sort of classic movie legend. There was that recent Playboy photo shoot where she attempted to emulate Marilyn Monroe. I've studied those images quite thoroughly and my conclusion is that she's no Marilyn Monroe, but I'll be happy to do further research to confirm.  And now Lohan is set to play Elizabeth Taylor, arguably the greatest movie star of all-time, in a Lifetime Original Movie.
Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story will focus on Taylor's relationship with Richard Burton, who would be her 5th and 6th husband, marrying him for a second time just 16 months after their first marriage ended. Before you condemn this as just another crappy Lifetime biopic with low standards, the script comes from Christopher Monger, who wrote HBO's award winning Temple Grandin. So this might be a film worth keeping an eye on for more than just Lohan's volatile presence.

Lohan and Taylor both started out as talented child actresses who became tabloid fodder as adults, but that's basically where the similarities end. Taylor was a master at molding her public persona, and managed to keep her career front and center even as her private life was displayed for all to see. Lohan, on the other hand, seems content to dig her own professional grave. Her willingness to indulge in this "bad girl" persona she's crafted for herself has led to others exploiting it. For instance, remember when the producers of that John Gotti movie used her name as a means of selling the film, and then once that was done they kicked her to the curb?

I hope that's not happening here, but something about this seems off. Like a publicity stunt. Other than her brief, sleepy performance in Machete, Lohan hasn't done much of anything in years, so it strikes me as weird that anyone would approach her for an iconic role like this. [Deadline]
