Vincenzo Natali to direct unconventional ghost story, 'Haunter'

I'm still relatively new on the Vincenzo Natali bandwagon, having only seen his loopy genetic sci-fi oddity, Splice. A polarizing film, I found it to be just crazy enough to work, and have been curious to see what Natali does next. He's had a number of offers on the table, including a possible Swamp Thing remake, and an adaptation of William Gibson's Neuromancer, but he's instead settled on something totally different.

BloodyDisgusting reports that Natali is set to direct Haunter, a supernatural thriller that flips the typical haunted house story on it's ear. This one will be told from the perspective of a ghost named Lisa, who has been stuck in a house since she and her family died under mysterious circumstances. When a new family moves in, she decided to possess their young daughter in an attempt to save them from a similar fate.

The script comes from Brian King, who worked with Natali on Cypher back in 2002. It's a nifty idea, and if done right could be just what the boring "ghost hunter" genre of flicks needs. Filming is expected to kick off in Toronto in a couple of months.
