Watch 7 minutes from 'Red Tails', produced by George Lucas
If George Lucas is truly all that stands between the advancement of African-American cinema and the abyss, then we're all friggin' doomed. That's my stance on some statements he made to USA Today while discussing his Tuskegee Airmen flick, Red Tails. Basically, his point is that if the film, which features a predominantly black cast, isn't a success then there is a good chance we won't see any more Tyler Perrys emerge. I don't buy it one bit, and it sounds like one man with a massive ego inflating the importance of his movie. If you want to see the full interview, you can check it out here.
I have no question that Lucas means well, and this is a story he's been wanting to tell for a long time. It's just that the film doesn't look very good when it's not showing aerial dogfights. Seven minutes of the film have been released, and that continues to be my thoughts on it. Anthony Hemingway(The Wire, Treme) directed, with reshoots handled by Lucas himself. Early word on Red Tails has been mixed, but the cast is strong featuring Terrence Howard, David Oyelowo, Bryan Cranston, Cuba Gooding Jr., Nate Parker, and more. It hits theaters next week on January 20th. Check out seven minutes from Red Tails below....[Shadow & Act]
