'Party Down' movie may shoot this summer, likely minus Jane Lynch

So it looks like one of Rob Thomas' cult favorite but low rated TV shows may actually get the movie it's fans have been clamoring for. Sorry, Veronica Mars fans, this news ain't for you. It's for fans of his awesome Starz series, Party Down, which quietly ended a couple of years ago amidst....you guessed it...low ratings. Ever since, people have been speculating about a feature film, with the talk cranking up last year when the show's star, Adam Scott, said that the finances just needed to be worked out and a start date could begin in the summer. Turns out he wasn't blowing smoke up our butts.

Megan Mullally, who played the ditzy and ever optimistic Lydia Dunfree, revealed that a script is being drafted by series co-creator John Enbom, and that a basic outline of the plot has been "enthusiastically" welcomed by potential investors. The plan would be for filming to begin this summer, with the entire cast returning with the exception of Jane Lynch, who has moved on to bigger(but definitely not better) things as the cranky gym coach lady on Glee.

Party Down was an amazing show, and it featured a truly inspired ensemble cast including Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Ken Marino, Martin Starr, Ryan Hansen, Mullally, Jennifer Coolidge, Lynch, and a wealth of crazy guest stars. The show's basic premise was following a bunch of wannabe Hollywood actors and writers, working at a crappy catering joint until they can get their big break. No other show did as good a job of poking a thumb in the eye of Hollywood and how things really are there for those who aren't part of the superstar elite.

As for the movie's plot? Mullally confirmed that it would likely take place not long after the final episode, and would finally introduce us to Lydia's racist ex-husband. [Deadline]
