Michael Fassbender confirmed for Ridley Scott's 'The Counselor'; May start date eyed
Good news on two fronts, as we have a more solid idea about the next projects for both Michael Fassbender and Ridley Scott. Just last week it was rumored that Fassbender was circling the lead role in The Counselor, based on an original screenplay from Cormac McCarthy. Ridley Scott was on board to direct, but he has so many films on the burner it was hard to tell exactly where this one would turn up. Now we have a pretty good idea, with the rapidly moving production set to kick off on May 1st, with Fassbender also confirmed.
Described as being similar to McCarthy's No Country for Old Men, the story would follow a lawyer who tries to dabble in the drug trade, thinking he can get out anytime. Only he discovers it's much harder than he expected, and winds up in a life or death situation. Deadline reports that a number of high profile actors are seeking parts in the film, with two integral female roles being sought out now.
Fassbender and Scott must've gotten along pretty well while filming Prometheus. To be honest, I'm almost more excited for this than I am that film, because McCarthy's stuff almost always makes for great movies that draw phenomenal talent. We could be looking at a potential Best Picture winner here.
