Chris Pine to co-write and star in comedy, 'Mantivities'

Chris Pine should be worshiping at the altar of JJ Abrams every single day. If it wasn't for his Star Trek reboot, it's very likely that Pine would be just another average, milquetoast actor nobody knew existed. Now he's just another average, milquetoast actor with enough name recognition to score lead roles in movies that probably could be better with any other actor. Sorry, not a fan.  But when the guy branches out, even a little bit, he deserves credit. Deadline reports Pine will co-write the script for Mantivities, a new comedy which he'll also be starring in.

Directed by Michael Patrick Jann, the guy behind the vastly underrated pageant comedy, Drop Dead Gorgeous, the story follows a group of friends in their 30s who band together to help one of their own grow up. Pine co-wrote the script with Robert Baker, Ian Gotler, Will Greenberg, Drew Howerton and Tony Liebetrau. That's a lot of hands in the pot for what sounds like a fairly simple comedy. Reason for worry? Probably.

It's unclear when filming on this would begin, but it doesn't sound like a production that would take a lot of time. Pine will be seen next in People Like Us, opening on June 29th.
