Isabelle Huppert, Janet McTeer, Antje Traue, and Michael Nyqvist join 'Suspiria' remake

After being in a limbo state since 2008, David Gordon Green's Suspiria remake is ramping up fast now that filming is set to begin in September. Just last night we learned that Isabelle Fuhrman(The Hunger Games) would take the lead role in the updated version of Dario Argento's horror. Now ScreenDaily adds that she'll be joined by the great Isabelle Huppert, Michael Nyqvist, Janet McTeer, and Antje Traue.

I've made it clear my deep love for Huppert before, and her addition makes this film a lot more interesting. If you want to see her at her ferocious best, check out 2010's White Material. Nyqvist starred in the Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and has been making in-roads here in America as the villain Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol. Janet McTeer recently earned a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Albert Nobbs, while Traue is set to play an evil Kryptonian in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. While the roles aren't clear at this point, you can bet your ass Huppert will play the queen of the witch's coven that secretly runs the school Fuhrman's character is attending.

Suspiria was a beautifully shot film, par for the Argento course, and despite some truly wild performances it falls flat in the final leg. It's not bad, just not worthy of being called a classic. Try and watch it now and it absolutely doesn't hold up. I'm curious to see what Gordon Green can do with it, and hope this marks a return to greatness for him.
