Keira Knightley replaces Scarlett Johansson in John Carney's 'Can a Song Save Your Life?'

Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo shared two of The Avengers best scenes, and since everybody on the planet has seen it I feel comfortable telling you what they were. The first was a tense recruiting effort where the Black Widow tried to use her various charms to convince the reluctant Bruce Banner to side with the team. The second was when Banner's rage finally boiled over, after about an hour of dark warnings, and the Hulk emerged with his first target the sexy Russian spy. It's safe to say that Johansson and Ruffalo were the two biggest stand outs from the film, and we were supposed to see the two pair up again for a very different project.

Johansson had been set to star with Ruffalo in Can A Song Save Your Life?, a musical from John Carney, the director behind 2007's indie romance hit, Once. ScreenDaily notes that Johansson has had to drop out for personal reasons, but a more than worthy replacement has been found in Keira Knightley. She'll play a woman who moves to New York with her boyfriend to pursue their musical careers, only he dumps her in order to pursue his own solo career. Ruffalo will play a record producer who discovers her and hopes to make her into a star. Hailee Steinfeld(True Grit) will play his daughter.

I've never heard Knightley bust a tune, so this looks like another bold move for the actress. With Judd Apatow producing, and Carney directing, I have no doubt they chose her for a reason. She'll be seen next in the excellent road trip dramedy, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, opening on June 22nd.
