New 'Lawless' character posters featuring Jessica Chastain and Tom Hardy

To read Matt Bondurant's machismo soaked, Prohibition era novel, The Wettest County in the World, you wouldn't expect a film adaptation to be the type to have individual character posters. Sure, all of the Bondurant brothers have their own distinct personalities, but it's very much a story about the hard life in Franklin County, VA and the entire country during that time. Then again, the film version, now titled Lawless, looks to be a very different animal than Bondurant book.

A handful of new character posters and the new above image have been released just as the film has made its big premier at Cannes. The word from a few fortunate buddies of mine that have attended has been strong, so maybe my worries about it leaving too much of Bondurant's tale behind in favor of turning it into a gangster movie are all for naught. The posters feature Shia Labeouf doing his best gangsta pose as the young Jack Bondurant, the dreamer of the three Bondurant boys. Tom Hardy is the middle brother, Forrest, who is the entrepreneur of the bunch who will fight to protect what he's earned. And then there's Jessica Chastain as Maggie, who they openly refer to as Forrest's love interest. In the book, the true nature of their relationship is kept a secret up until the very end, practically to the last page, but that looks to have been tweaked for the film. Oh, and guys? Jessica Chastain gets naked in it. Just sayin'. Another reason to show up on August 29th. Yep, it's been moved up a couple of days. Hooray! Check out all six posters below....
