Trailer Time: 'Hyde Park on Hudson', starring Bill Murray and Laura Linney

Let's examine all the ingredients in Hyde Park on Hudson first. Let's see...it's a historical period piece. It's directed by Roger Michell, who helmed the critically acclaimed Notting Hill and helped take Peter O'Toole to a Best Actor nomination for Venus. Bill Murray is playing against type as President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in a story that has not only intense romantic passions but also global implications as he considered whether or not to enter the United States into war alongside the British. Fellow Academy Award nominee, Laura Linney, is Roosevelt's assistant and rumored lover, Margaret "Daisy" Stuckley. Oh, and the story also includes King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, who might sound familiar to fans of Best Picture winner, The King's Speech.

Can we say "Oscar bait"? Of course it is, and in the new trailer for Hyde Park on Hudson, Murray looks to be in top form as the sickly but sharp 32nd President of the United States, and this may be his best shot at earning the Best Actor win that eluded him for Lost in Translation. The story centers on a season when Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor(Olivia Williams) took a break to the country estate for a bit of rest and relaxation. Of course it never turns out that way, with official visits from the British Royal Family, a combustible love triangle involving Franklin's mistress, and the press hovering around at every turn.

Thankfully, this looks like light-hearted fare with some dramatic flourishes, and not a stodgy old period piece. Look for Hyde Park on Hudson to open on December 7th....
