Sure Shots: Neil Marshall; 'The Smurfs 3'; Sam Claflin

* Neil Marshall(The Descent) is the latest to take a stab at The Last Voyage of the Demeter, a vampire tale that has been in the works for damn near a decade with multiple names attached to direct. The story, written by Bragi Schut(Season of the Witch), follows the crew of the infamous vessel that transported Dracula from Transylvania to London. Along the way, they are slaughtered one by one. Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley were set to star at one point, but now production is starting over from square one. This sounds awesome, and Marshall is a solid director and great for this type of story. Let's hope it finally gets off the friggin' ground. [THR]

* We're more than a year away from The Smurfs 2, which has only begun casting up the sequel by adding names like Christina Ricci and the awesome J.B. Smoove. With the first film making over $560M, you knew it was coming, but how much confidence must Sony have in its success if they're already planning The Smurfs 3? Karey Kirkpatrick and Chris Poche, both writers on the animated Over the Hedge, have been brought in to start smurfing out a script for the third film. They're getting a pretty early jump on production so it's possible we'll see this in 2014 or very early 2015.The Smurfs 2 opens on July 31st 2013.  [Variety]

* Sam Claflin has had it good for his first two major film roles, appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman. Now he'll move into something a bit smaller, joining Jared Harris(Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) in The Quiet Ones. The supernatural thriller based on a true story has Harris as an unorthodox, charismatic professor who takes his students on a dangerous mission totally off the grid. Their assignment? To create a poltergeist out of negative human energy. John Pogue(Quarantine 2) will direct.
