Trailer Time: 'Jack and Diane', starring Juno Temple and Riley Keough
Bradley Rust Gray first caught my eye with his 2010 indie darling, The Exploding Girl, in which he helped guide Zoe Kazan to a weighty emotional performance that I thought was worthy of some awards consideration. Gray has been making waves on the independent circuit again, only this time it's for Jack and Diane, which promises us a hot lesbian werewolf love story. Yeah, that's one way of getting everyone's attention.
The first official trailer has now been released, and based on this some people are probably going to be disappointed. Juno Temple(The Dark Knight Rises) and Riley Keough(Magic Mike) play two NYC girls who fall in love quickly after one torrid evening. When faced with the prospect of being separated, Diane's body undergoes violent physical transformations which put their love to the test.
Other than the rather disturbing glimpses of muscle, bone and sinew, you'd be hard pressed to find anything about this that screamed "creature feature". It looks like a fairly conventional indie romance, with an overwrought soundtrack and lots of longing stares of desire. We do get a brief look at Kylie Minogue in a supporting turn, but nothing of Chronicle star, Dane DeHaan. This looks like the sort of contemplative film Rust Gray is good at, so I'm hoping the film is better than this trailer indicates. Jack and Diane hits VOD on September 28th before opening in theaters on November 2nd....
