"Hey, Willie!" If you were a kid in the 1980s, then chances are you were a fan of Gordon Shumway. Um, who the heck is Gordon Shumway? Well, he's better known as ALF("Alien Lifeform") the wise-cracking, cat-eating alien from the hit TV sitcom that was like a cultural phenomenon for awhile. The show ran from 1986 to 1990, with ALF also getting his own cartoon, comic book, and in recent years a really crappy, short-lived late night talk show. And now he's getting his own feature film.
Stealing a page from the success of The Smurfs and Seth McFarland's Ted, ALF is being developed as a live-action/CGI hybrid that will no doubt find the alien again crashing his space ship into the Tanner family home. Despite his often saucy attitude, tendency to cause trouble, and continued desire to have their cat for breakfast, the Tanners would eventually adopt ALF as one of their own. Paul Fusco pitched the idea to Sony Animation back in May, and they've now closed a deal to bring the show to reality. In kinda cool news, Fusco will also provide ALF's distinctive voice, just as he did on the show.
Jordan Kerner, who also produced The Smurfs, will serve in the same capacity here, along with Fusco and the show's creator, Tom Patchett. [THR]
