John Travolta may star in a remake of 'The Toxic Avenger'

I know a lot of people have mad love for Troma's 1984 campy cult comedy, The Toxic Avenger, but it's not a particular favorite of mine.  Like all of Troma's movies, the film was super low budget, featured a ton of sex and really awful jokes, but for some reason it really clicked with people, and three more sequels were produced, the latest one in 2000. A couple of years ago a more upscale remake was dreamed up with uber-producer Akiva Goldsman backing it, and Steve Pink(Hot Tub Time Machine) in line to direct based on a Daniel Mitchell script. Now a rumor has surfaced that John Travolta may be part of the cast.

The rumor comes from the cast tracking site, It's On the Grid(via Twitch), which lists Travolta's involvement. While many have taken this to mean he'd be playing the sludgy green hero himself, but Jeff Sneider at Variety says that's not the case. I can see Travolta as the villain, though. None of this should be taken as gospel, though, as IOTG isn't always on point and is occasionally out-of-date.

The plan this time around would be less edgy and R-Rated, but more PG-13 family friendly pro-environmental crap, similar to the Toxic Crusaders cartoon from the early 90s. *barf* Sorry, bad memories. We'll see if any of this comes to pass, but I really hope it doesn't. File this under "rumor" for now.
