If you never had a chance to check out Stefan Ruzowitzky's Academy Award winning Nazi drama, The Counterfeiters, now might be a good time to rent it or something. For me, it's been way too long between that and his latest film, the crime thriller Deadfall(formerly Blackbird), but now that it's here and the trailer has been released, I think the wait might have been worth it.
Pulling together an incredible cast for a chilly, ice-cold crime yarn, Deadfall stars Eric Bana and Olivia Wilde(now she's in every indie flick?) as Addison and Liza, siblings on the run after casino heist that went belly up. After a run-in with the law ends with a state trooper dead, the two split up with Addison cutting a bloody swath across the wilderness. Liza takes a ride from an ex-boxer(Charlie Hunnam) headed to his family's for Thanksgiving, with passions being ignited between the two. When they arrive with Addison not far behind, it makes for a tense reunion that could put everyone's lives at risk. Kris Kristofferson, Sissy Spacek, Treat Williams, and Kate Mara co-star in what appears to be a capable and gritty thriller. Here's hoping the film can maintain the energy present here in the trailer.
Deadfall hits theaters on December 7th, but you can check it out on VOD November 1st....[Hulu]
