The first footage from the Fede Alvarez-directed, Sam Raimi-produced remake of Evil Dead screened yesterday at New York Comic-Con, and for the most part the response has been positive. The general consensus is that the film looks good, capturing some of the style of Raimi's film withotu going overboard, but clearly isn't aiming to be a half-smirking cheesy horror like the original. I was never a big fan of Evil Dead, anyway, so I might actually appreciate a more straight forward approach.
At the end of the panel they released the above image, which is star Jane Levy(Suburgatory) crawling out of the pits of Hell, apparently. This version of the film follows five friends hanging out in the woods to help an alcoholic friend dry out, only to discover The Book of the Dead and then everything hits the fan.
