James Gandolfini's 'Zero Dark Thirty' role revealed as 1st image surfaces

Between all the production delays and baseless accusations of political gamesmanship levied against Kathryn Bigelow, her controversial Osama Bind Laden film Zero Dark Thirty is only a couple of months away from hitting theaters. The film has been developed under a veil of extreme secrecy, to the point where we still know next to nothing about who the talented ensemble will be playing. One of those super secret roles belonged to James Gandolfini, but now we're getting our first look at him in what has been revealed to be the role of Secretary of Defense(I call it the War Secretary) Leon Panetta.

Panetta was the head of the CIA when the Bin Laden operation went down, leading to the terrorists capture and execution. Since the film largely follows the operation from an intelligence point-of-view, Gandolfini's role is going to be key in piecing together the larger narrative surrounding the mission. He joins what's already a fantastic group with Jessica Chastain, Joel and Nash Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Mark Strong, Kyle Chandler, Mark Duplass, Jennifer Ehle, Edgar Ramirez, Jason Clarke and many more.

Zero Dark Thirty opens on December 19th. [EW]
