Jason Segel to write, produce, and star in 'The Other F Word'
Over the last few years we've seen a growing trend of documentaries being turned into feature films. The first example that springs to mind was 2003's Party Monster, which was based on the documentary of the same name. And then there was Werner Herzog's Rescue Dawn, which was based on his own film Little Dieter Needs to Fly. As Hollywood searches for more original content, documentaries are a safe place to find just that with the added marketability of being true.
Deadline is reporting that Jason Segel is looking to capitalize on this trend by adapting last year's documentary, The Other F Word, which produce, star, and co-write with Drew Pearce(Iron Man 3). The duo have sold the pitch to Fox that will see them adapting Andrea Blaugrand Nevins' film that followed a number of famous punk rock musicians, including Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pennywise's Jim Lindberg, as they deal with the added responsibilities of parenting, putting their counter-culture lifestyle behind them.
I remember not thinking a lot of the movie, maybe because I always found the punk rock movement kinda phony anyway. Expect Segel to turn it into a pretty easily digestible family comedy of some sort.
