Despite all of them being pretty terrible, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer's parody flicks have slid pretty neatly into the space once dominated by Scary Movie. Vampires Suck, Date Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, and Disaster Movie have earned over $350M without costing a thing, and as long as Hollywood keeps making movies, there will be fodder for them to spoof.
Their latest one is The Starving Games, an obvious parody of The Hunger Games, and they just landed their leading lady in Maiara Walsh(Mean Girls 2). She'll play Kantmiss Evershot(ha ha ha...ugh), with Brant Daugherty(Pretty Little Liars) playing the spoof version of Gale Hawthorne. The aim is to also poke fun at Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Avengers, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
This will probably be awful, so let's hope nobody shows up to see it. Filming begins this week in New Orleans. [THR]
