Mark Bomback to rewrite 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'

I'm a football fan. Big time football fan. And one thing that I know you can always count on when a new head coach takes over a team is that he's going to largely dump the staff and the roster to bring in his own people. New coach probably means a new QB. Hollywood movies sorta work the same way. With Dawn of the Planet of the Apes recently gaining Matt Reeves(Cloverfield) as director, replacing Rupert Wyatt, he's now dumping Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa's script that the studio supposedly loved.

Instead he'll be bringing on Mark Bomback to pen the latest draft. Bomback is a franchise guy, having written the Total Recall remake, Live Free or Die Hard, and The Wolverine. Two out of these three movies are utter crap, so it might be troubling to have Bomback anywhere near this one, but he did some work on Rise of the Planet of the Apes so he knows his way around the material. Presumably he'll work closely with Reeves to mold the film closer to his style, which is very different than that of Wyatt.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens on May 23rd 2014. [THR]
