Sure Shots: Rupert Sanders; Kevin Costner; Matt Damon

* We still don't know if Rupert Sanders' dalliance with Kristen Stewart will cost him(and her for that matter) a Snow White and the Huntsman sequel, but whatever the case the director isn't sitting idly by waiting for an answer. Universal is eying him as the guy to direct their upcoming Van Helsing relaunch, which currently has Tom Cruise set for the title role. This "grounded" version of the monster hunter's story is being developed by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci(Star Trek). Nothing has been locked down yet, but I think it's a smart move for the studio to keep the talented director under their umbrella and working on tentpole features. [Twitch]

* A few months ago we learned that Ivan Reitman was gearing up to direct Draft Day, a football dramedy that follows the general manager of the NFL's Buffalo Bills as he spends 24 hours trying to secure the #1 draft pick. Already a promising concept, and with a script co-written by Pulitzer Prize nominee Rajiv Joseph, it has now attracted the attention of Kevin Costner, who is in talks for the GM role. The NFL is actually in the process of considering whether or not their officially licensed teams can be used in the film, and if so that would be a pretty big deal since they almost never allow it. They could use the good PR, to be perfectly honest. [Vulture]

* Matt Damon hasn't worked with Terry Gilliam since 2005's The Brothers Grimm, which didn't work out so well, but maybe this next time will be a marked improvement. Damon revealed he has a small role in The Zero Theorem, Gilliam's upcoming dystopian sci-fi film starring Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, David Thewlis, and Melanie Thierry. Also joining the cast are perennial villain Peter Stormare and Indian comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar. The film centers on an eccentric and reclusive computer genius obsessed with discovering the reason for all existence, but runs afoul of Management who send a sexy teen lover to distract him.
