New 'Beautiful Creatures' trailer starring Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englert

What is this, a tug-of-war for YA genre supremacy? Fans of young adult romance novels have an embarrassment of riches right now, and over the last few weeks we've seen trailers for The Host, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, and Beautiful Creatures. It's a lot to take in, especially with some hoping for a respite now that Twilight is drawing to a close. But I think studios have been smart in selecting adaptations that are all very different from one another.

The latest trailer for Beautiful Creatures is an improvement over the last one, which was also very good at highlighting its dark, Southern Gothic roots. There's a bit of new footage and a greater emphasis on the plot, which follows Ethan(Alden Ehrenreich) and Lena(Alice Englert), two star-crossed lovers who begin to uncover some deeply held secrets about their families. Emmy Rossum looks downright nasty as Alice's dangerous cousin, and Emma Thompson is chomping scenery everywhere. Always a good thing to see her cut loose a little.

With a cast that also includes Viola Davis, Jeremy Irons, and Thomas Mann, there has to be something more than just your standard supernatural romance. Directed by Richard LaGravanese, Beautiful Creatures opens on February 13th 2013....
