Is there a direction you feel drawn to? Well yeah, towards the state of absolute confusion, that's where. A little over a week ago we received the first, extremely cryptic teaser trailer for Upstream Color, the latest film from Primer director Shane Carruth. There wasn't much that made sense in it, and there's probably even less that comes together now.
Short of asking a lot of questions about starlings, it's hard to put a finger on exactly where Carruth is going with this, but that's probably exactly how he wants us to feel. Even the plot description is pretty much useless: A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the lifecycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives. Ok, whatever. He's certainly got my curiosity piqued. Starring Carruth, Amy Seimetz, and Andrew Sensenig, Upstream Color opens on April 5th 2013.....
