Watch the tsunami hit in new clip from 'The Impossible'

Part of me really wishes they hadn't released this clip from The Impossible, as it shares too much of what is by far the most compelling and devastating sequence. Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, the film chronicles the harrowing exploits of one family trying to survive the 2004 tsunami that hit Thailand. Bayona, best known for the Guillermo Del Toro-produced horror The Orphanage, called upon the actual survivors to help him detail the tragic events, and now you can see how he depicted the tsunami's opening salvo.

Fortunately, it doesn't show everything, but those disquieting moments before the waves finally crash are brilliantly done, so if you don't want to have that ruined best to turn away now. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star as the parents of three boys, separated after the tsunami and forced to overcome incredible odds to find one another. The film had some Oscar buzz that sort of faded, but it seems to be building back up again, especially for Watts who carries the heaviest emotional burden.

The Impossible opens tomorrow, so check be here for my review....
