Ashley Bell gets bent out of shape in poster for 'The Last Exorcism 2'
The Last Exorcism was a much smarter film than people give it credit for, perhaps because we've become trained to the formulaic nature of this particular genre. But I feel it approached the familiar premise from a slightly different angle, helped by Patrick Fabian's magnetic lead performance and Ashley Bell as the demonically possessed teen. The ending was where they dropped the ball, but hopefully it can get picked back up with the sequel.
Formerly titled The Last Exorcism: The Beginning of the End, they've apparently dropped the lengthy subtitle just as a new poster has been issued, featuring Bell contorting herself into a ridiculous '2'. Get it, because it's a sequel?? Ha ha ha ugh. Haven't they just totally invalidated the title of the entire franchise just by having a follow-up?
Ed Gass-Donnelly is taking over as director, with Eli Roth back to produce. Donnelly's an unknown quantity to me, and frankly I have doubts this is anything more than a cash grab. A trailer is expected to premier in just a few hours, so keep an eye out for that. The Last Exorcism 2 opens in March 2013. Check out the plot synopsis below....[Yahoo!]
Eli Roth & Strike Entertainment bring us an even more terrifying and bigger scale sequel to THE LAST EXORCISM that grossed $70 million worldwide. It looks like Nell Sweetzer’s last exorcism was not foolproof. She is back… and so are her demons.
Continuing where the first film left off, teenage Nell Sweetzer is found dirty and terrified in the woods having just escaped a demon ritual in which a cult helped her give birth to a demon baby. Confused and scared, Nell is examined by doctors but she doesn’t remember much about the previous few months except that as a result of everything, her family is now dead. She is moved into Davreaux – a girls’ halfway house in New Orleans, where she will try to put her life back together with the help of the therapist, Frank Merle. She even begins to date a boy named Chris and starts a job at a local hotel.
But something doesn’t feel right to Nell. She is being sought after by the demon who possessed her in the first LAST EXORCISM. It wants Nell, but in a different way than before…
