'Smallville' star Michael Rosenbaum up for Star-Lord role in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

A couple of weeks ago it seemed like Marvel was closing in on an actor to take the Star-Lord role in Guardians of the Galaxy, with the final two contenders said to be Jim Sturgess and Zachary Levi. But today alone we've seen that shortlist double in size, with both additions guys who recently played famous DC characters.

Just hours after Joseph Gordon-Levitt's name was thrown into the hat, Michael Rosenbaum has tweeted that he also has tested for the part. Rosenbaum is best known for his great portrayal of Lex Luthor on Smallville, and has worked with 'Guardians' director James Gunn in the past. Does that make him a favorite for the job? Probably not. Marvel will likely want to go with a bigger name if one is available, but y'never know. Hey, stranger things have happened. "It's not what you know, it's who you know" after all, right?

Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1st 2014.
