'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' sequel in the works

After getting kicked around the schedule like a soccer ball for months, Paramount Pictures dropped Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters on us in January with few expecting it to amount to very much. Shocker of shockers, it actually performed pretty well, but where it really did the most damage was overseas. All told, the film has crossed the $200M mark, and that means it's time to start talking sequel.

Paramount Pictures, along with MTV, Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions, and MGM are all pitching in for a follow-up to the campy, bloody action film about grown up versions of the fairy tale siblings. The big question is whether Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton would return or move on. They signed on for the film when their careers were in very different places, but at the same time the film has only raised their global profiles.

Writer/director Tommy Wirkola is currently working on a Dead Snow sequel, and it's unclear if he'll be asked to return.  My gut tells me this goes straight-to-DVD with a brand new cast, but I expect we'll hear something more concrete soon. [Deadline]
