Looks like there will be two Lance Armstrong movies racing into theaters at some point in the future. We already know about the one J.J. Abrams is producing, although that may be on the backburner for awhile thanks to that whole Star Wars thing. And now Warner Bros. has picked up another which has some significant talent lined up for it already.
Emmy-winning Game Change director Jay Roach is pairing up with Contagion scribe Scott Z. Burns on a film based on Armstrong's life, and it's guaranteed to be controversial stuff. The deal includes the life rights of Tyler Hamilton, a member of Armstrong's racing team who testified against the cyclist in court over doping allegations. If you saw his interview on 60 Minutes then you know the things he had to say were pretty explosive, and it's safe to say Hamilton was a large factor in Armstrong's fall from grace. The plan is acquire the rights to others associated with the scandal, to make this one comprehensive Armstrong-bashing session.
Personally, I'm bored of the whole Armstrong thing, and don't really want to see a flood of movies about the guy. He's a douche who fooled a lot of people into thinking he was a hero, so I understand the interest, but...that's it really. Maybe I'm wrong, but to me his story's not all that compelling.
