Ken Watanabe joins 'Godzilla'; Juliette Binoche confirmed

As production begins in Vancouver on Gareth Edwards' Godzilla relaunch, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have revealed the final cast, adding one major surprise while confirming another that has been in the works for weeks.

Apparently having approved of Frank Darabont's rewrite, Aaron Taylor-Johnson will lead the film, along with Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, and David Strathairn. Joining them is Juliette Binoche (Chocolat), who had been rumored for a role awhile back and is now locked in for an unspecified role. The newest addition is Inception star Ken Watanabe, bringing plenty of blockbuster experience to an ensemble mostly lacking in it. Watanabe has had major roles in Batman Begins, The Last Samurai, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Plot details remain under wraps, but Olsen has said the film will be darker and heavier than recent Godzilla features, drawing inspiration from the original interpretation of the classic movie monster. Look for Godzilla to hit theaters on May 16th 2014.
