It's been a couple of years since Steven Spielberg came aboard Warner Bros. Biblical epic, Gods and Kings. There hasn't been much movement on it, except last year when we started to hear about a possible start date. In the meantime, Spielberg has been moving a lot of things around on his schedule. Robopocalypse was recently put on hiatus; he's producing the Colin Trevorrow-directed Jurassic Park 4 which could start production in April; Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon has become his new passion project; and there's still a sequel to The Adventures of Tintin on the way.
Throughout all of that, we heard nothing about Gods and Kings, so it comes as no surprise that he's now dropped out of the film, with Warner Bros. targeting Best Director winner Ang Lee to replace him. The Life of Pi director is said to be "intrigued" at the idea of helming a film about the life and death of Moses, told in Braveheart-style. The script comes from Michael Green (Green Lantern) and Stuart Hazeldine.
We'll see how this shakes out, but Lee already has something else new on his plate. He'll direct the pilot to FX series, Tyrant, spearheaded by the producers of Homeland and Six Feet Under. [Deadline]
