Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn serve up a 'Dodgeball' sequel

Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story was something of an underdog itself when it came out...wait for it...TEN YEARS AGO!!!!  Time flies, right? It starred Vince Vaughn and a super-obnoxious Ben Stiller, and basically was a variation on the repeated "Vince Vaughn trains losers to be winners" theme, only this time involving a pro dodgeball team assembled to stop a corporate takeover of their local gym. The film did surprisingly well, earning over $100M and becoming a quotable juggernaut that made it a hit on DVD. A sequel has been kicked around for years with little happening, until now that is.

Fox is teaming up with Stiller's Red Hour Films for Dodgeball 2, hiring Clay Tarver to start work on the script. This one is likely a long ways off, and as such plot details aren't available except that Vaughn and Stiller's rival characters will be teaming up to take on a larger threat. Tarver knows his way around unconventional sports films, currently penning Quantum Hoops, a film about a nerdy basketball team at Caltech. He also co-wrote the 2001 horror Joy Ride (kinda underrated, IMHO) alongside J.J. Abrams.

Typical of any Stiller film, Dodgeball featured a number of celebrity cameos, including Chuck Norris, David Hasselhoff, and Lance Armstrong. A few years ago a rumor emerged that a sequel would bring Armstrong back for a story centering on the world of cycling. Obviously, that's not likely to happen now, but it will be interesting to see who from the original film does return.[THR]
