Charlie Sheen goes back to his birth name for 'Machete Kills'

He's been bounced from TV shows, made a public ass of himself on numerous occasions, and only now has Charlie Sheen decided to change his name. The Anger Management star has decided to go back to his birth name, Carlos Estevez, for Robert Rodriguez's upcoming sequel, Machete Kills. The above screen grab taken during screenings this past weekend, shows an armed-to-the-teeth Sheen with the caption "Introducing Carlos Estevez".

Sheen's  brother Emilio Estevez kept the family name and maintained ties to his Latino heritage, this despite their father Martin Sheen changing his name from  Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estevez. He changed it to get more acting gigs, and it obviously worked. Does this make The West Wing's Jed Bartlett the first Latino POTUS ever? With a name like Bartlett I'm guessing he'd be considered a gringo.

So why is Sheen making this decision now? He seems to have settled into a decent groove lately, both on the big and small screen. Anger Management is performing well, and he recently starred in Roman Coppola's A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III. Maybe Rodriguez just wants to punch up the Latino flavor of Machete Kills, which has Danny Trejo back as the Mexican vigilante, taking on an arms dealer with plans of firing a rocket into space. Sheen...er, Estevez, will follow in daddy's footsteps and play the President who hires Machete for the mission.

It'll be interesting to see if the name change sticks for the long haul. Machete Kills opens on September 13th.  [TMZ]
