Possible major spoilers in new 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' set photos
When it comes to adapting comic book movies, one of the ways a director appeals to the die-hards while providing something new for casual audiences is to take iconic moments and twist them ever so slightly. X-Men: The Last Stand was an altered version of the classic Dark Phoenix Saga, and Sam Raimi played with many of Spider-Man's most memorable scenes during his trilogy. One question that has been at the center of Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man sequel has been whether or not he would follow the same trajectory for Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) as the comics. Without giving away exactly what that entails, Stone has made it clear that she wants the story to play out exactly as it did in comics issues The Amazing Spider-Man #121-122.
Now some new set photos have emerged which give us a possible hint which direction Webb is leaning. If you don't want to have major plot points spoiled, it's probably a good idea to turn away now....
Here are the new set photos from over the weekend of Emma Stone filming the sequel in New York. Note the location and the outfit, and check out a comparison image....
Bridge. Ugly green coat. Purple skirt. Knee-high boots. It certainly looks like Webb is following the storyline laid forth in 'The Night Gwen Stacy Died'. But would he be so obvious, knowing that these very photographs were going to hit the web? That I'm not so sure about, and it's possible he's pulling a fast one on us. It's hard to ignore the sudden presence of Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, though, and some expect Felicity Jones' role to be that of Felicia Hardy, another Peter Parker love interest.
We'll find out Gwen Stacy's fate on May 2nd 2014. [SHH/DailyMail]
