Samuel L. Jackson to play the POTUS in action flick 'Big Game'

One can reasonably expect to see dozens of films get announced every year when Cannes rolls around. It's just a part of the deal as investors and distributors attend the festival. Some of these projects turn out to be major players over time, while others get announced and then just disappear. Where exactly action film Big Game falls is yet to be determined, as its new star Samuel L. Jackson is known for headlining straight-to-DVD junk as he is blockbusters.

He's already helped lead SHIELD in The Avengers and last played a house slave in Django Unchained, but now Jackson will play the President of the United States in Big Game, which marks the English-language debut by Finnish director Jalmari Helande. Helande led the wildly creative holiday film Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale back in 2010. Big Game follows a 13-year old boy who undergoes a test of manhood by spending a night alone in the wilderness, until Air Force One is shot down overhead.  Discovering the President in a crashed escape pod, they must team up to fight for survival.

Alex Garland (28 Days Later) is on board to produce, with production slated to begin late this summer. [Deadline]
