Sure Shots: Kate Winslet; Nicolas Cage; Timothy Olyphant
* Kate Winslet's been keeping a low profile lately, perhaps still ducking for cover after appearing in the atrocious Movie 43. She does have Jason Reitman's Labor Day coming out later this year, and she's currently filming Divergent with Shailene Woodley, but as Cannes gears up she's just signed on to one of the many projects that will be looking for investors. Winslet will star in The Dressmaker, a 1950s-set revenge romance from How to Make an American Quilt director, Jocelyn Moorhouse. The story follows Tilly, "an avenging angel who returns home to the remote Australian country town from which she fled as a child after being accused of murder. Although ostracised, Tilly, an exponent of stunning ’40s haute couture, liberates and empowers the town’s women with her wit and her fashionable designs. She eventually finds unexpected love and is able to exact revenge on those who wronged her." [Screen Daily]
* Nicolas Cage is set to star in Hotel 33, a horror film based on the supposedly true events surrounding the 1953 disappearance of 32 people on the opening night of Williamsport Grand Hotel. Newcomer Kellie Madison will make her writing/directing debut, with Cage starring as the detective investigating the case while four teenagers break in to the abandoned hotel where things soon go awry. Production is set to begin this September.
* Timothy Olyphant (Justified) will be The Man on Carrion Road for Apollo 18 director, Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego. Written by Nils Lyew, the film will have Olyphant as the new sheriff in a back woods border town who must team up with the man he replaced to investigate a Mexican cartel deal gone bad. So between this, Justified, and Deadwood, has Olyphant been pigeonholed into a certain character type? He's good at it, but sheesh.
