"Don't touch Lola"- The first trailer for Marvel's 'Agents of SHIELD', plus new viral videos
It's rare that any TV series gets the geek crowd in a lather as quickly as Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, but it seems to have all the necessary ingredients to do just that. Not only does the upcoming show tie-in to Marvel's larger cinematic universe, but the pilot is being written and directed by the head Avenger himself, Joss Whedon. Whedon's already got one of the more loyal fan bases around, but combine it with the superhero crowd and...well, you've got what looks like a surefire hit for ABC in the fall season. After teasing us with a pair of enticing previews, the first full trailer for Agents of SHIELD is here, and there are probably a few heads exploding with anticipation right now.
With plenty of references to Thor, Iron Man, and Captain America, the trailer promises that every episode is going to basically be a mini-movie unto itself. Like the six-second preview we received earlier, the footage is full of action but ends with a signature Whedon gag. It's amazing to think how far Marvel has come in just five years, from dominating the the big screen to now being on the verge of taking over television. The only thing that can stop them now is oversaturation. Let's just hope the show doesn't burn out quickly like Heroes, or fall into a creative rut like Smallville. With Whedon around and a limitless amount of Marvel characters at their disposal, it's unlikely that will happen. It'll be fascinating to see how the show evolves over time.
If you recall the brief teaser featuring the Hulk, you'll remember the "Rising Tide" logo that stamped on the footage. The We Are the Rising Tide viral site has launched a number of videos that suggest a larger conspiracy involving SHIELD. Since most of these scenes appear to be from earlier Marvel movies (the Stark Expo attack for instance), this may be the work of the computer hacker Skye, who may have been gathering information on SHIELD before joining their ranks. Time for the viral sleuths to bust out their magnifying glasses.
Starring Clark Gregg, Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, and Chloe Bennet, Agents of SHIELD premieres this fall on ABC.
