When Joss Whedon revealed that he would be adding the mutant siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch into his The Avengers 2 script, there was a little bit of confusing. For good reason, as they are characters who walk in the worlds of both The Avengers and the X-men, the latter falling under the control of 20th Century Fox. The deal was that both studios could use them, without overtly referencing certain aspects. Marvel can't talk about their daddy, Magneto, and Fox can't mention their time on The Avengers. It was a weird arrangement that left open the possibility of a showdown if they both decided to use the characters at the same time, and that is exactly what's happening now.
Filming on X-men: Days of Future Past is well underway, but Bryan Singer is still revealing new cast members. His latest tweet confirms that Evan Peters (American Horror Story) has signed on to play Pietro "Quicksilver" Maximoff in the mutant sequel....
Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining #XMen #DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver. So what's the deal here? Will this affect Whedon's plans for Quicksilver? Probably not, but Marvel is likely not going to be happy about this. Singer's tweet suggests that his version will be a kid, like the rest of the 1970s team of X-men will be. And how long before we find out Singer is also adding Scarlet Witch? You can't have one without the other, right?

Most likely, nobody will change anything, and all this will accomplish is that we'll have a contingent of fans who prefer one version of the character over the other. But still, there are a lot of characters who can fall into multiple categories, and if this becomes a regular occurrence expect either Marvel or Fox to take action.
