William Fichtner takes "iconic" role in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'

While many have been indulging themselves with videos of Megan Fox bouncing on a trampoline on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, there is some news of relevance actually taking place. Most of the major characters have already been filled, but the most obvious one still open is that of their masked nemesis, Shredder. But that could all be changing now, as Deadline reports William Fichtner (Drive Angry) has come aboard in a role they describe as being of "iconic stature".

There are only a few characters in the TMNT mythos that could be described as "iconic", but Shredder is the one that makes the most sense. If Michael Bay and director Jonathan Liebesman were still planning on going the extraterrestrial route, it may have been within reason to suggest a character like Krang, an alien who also served as Shredder's partner-in-crime. But that's no longer the case, so a more traditional option would seem to make sense. Fichtner is certainly too old to play the Turtles' vigilante pal, Casey Jones.

New set photos have also emerged of Jeremy Howard (Donatello) , Pete Ploszek (Leonardo), Noel Fisher (Michelangelo) in their motion-capture outfits, and it looks like in this scene the Turtles have been kidnapped by Shredder's Foot Clan. You can check that out below, along with a couple of shots of Megan Fox as April O'Neil, and Will Arnett whose mystery role has been revealed as cameraman/rival Vernon Fenwick.  Oh, and of course the trampoline vid is there, too.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opens on June 6th 2014, which it now has to itself with 21 Jump Street 2 moving to a week later. [CBM]
