Maya Rudolph joins 'Inherent Vice' as first set photos emerge
Filming is now taking place on Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of Inherent Vice, and considering the star-studded cast it was only a mater of time before set photos began to hit the web. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Benicio Del Toro, Martin Short, Kevin J. O'Connor, Josh Brolin, and Katherine Waterston, but with Thomas Pynchon's novel sporting more than two dozen crazy characters, more celebs could come aboard at any time. In fact, the first set photos not only give us a first look at Phoenix a weed-smoking detective Doc Sportello, but they also reveal Anderson's longtime partner Maya Rudolph has joined the cast.
The photos come courtesy of The Daily Mail, capturing Phoenix as the drug-addled Los Angeles gumshoe, who runs into all sorts of obstacles while investigating an ex-girlfriend's kidnapping. A very pregnant Rudolph (she and Anderson are expecting their fourth child) is set to take on the small role of nurse Petunia Leeway, who works at a vitamin shop where the resident pharmacist dispenses "B-12" shots like in the recent episode of Mad Men titled "The Crash".
Inherent Vice hits theaters in 2014.
