Rumor: 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' Will Feature The Vulture and The Sinister Six

The character played by Colm Feore has been one of The Amazing Spider-Man sequel's biggest remaining mysteries. Because of his age, and the secrecy surrounding his role, it seemed obvious for a time that he would be getting all green and nasty as Norman Osborn, better known as the Spidey villain, Green Goblin. It was Chris Cooper who ended up with it, though, and we've seen set photos that suggest Feore will be an employee of the mysterious Ravencroft Institute. But a new rumor has surfaced that ties Feore to a classic Spidey nemesis, and could hint at what's in store for the third film.

Sources at Comicbookmovie have "confirmed" that Feore will be taking on the role of Adrian Toomes, better known as The Vulture. Toomes is one of Spider-Man's most persistent enemies, beginning his criminal career as an engineer who designed a weaponized flight suit that also granted increased strength. There may be some tweaking to his character to associate him with Ravencroft, which in the comics is a prison for super-powered villains. Perhaps Toomes will be breaking somebody out? Like maybe a scaly green Lizard?

The Vulture and the Lizard were both members of the Sinister Six, a team comprised of Spider-Man's toughest foes. Last summer a story surfaced that they would be a major part of the third film, and CBM's story says they will begin to form in the sequel. There are already five potential pieces, with Electro, Green Goblin, Lizard, Rhino, and maybe the Vulture all in one place. That would leave just one other villain to be introduced, possibly in the final leg of the trilogy. Or we could see one of the established characters take a turn for the dark side? I keep thinking back to Sony's plans for a Venom spinoff, and Chris Zylka is already in place as Flash Thompson, who is the current anti-hero version of the symbiotic alien. And why is B.J. Novak's role still being kept under wraps?

Lots of questions, and all springing from one rumor that may or may not be true. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 swings into theaters on May 2nd 2014.
