Sam Taylor-Johnson To Direct 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

And our great national nightmare is finally over. It's been one long, crazy ride trying to find someone to direct an adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, the erotica book based on Twilight-porn that is probably downloaded on your mom's Kindle right now. Gus Van Sant quite publicly made a bid for the job, and Joe Wright was recently rumored for it, but it won't be a big name behind the camera at all. Instead it will be Sam Taylor-Johnson, wife of Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Taylor-Johnson made her directorial debut with the young John Lennon biopic, Nowhere Boy, which featured her husband in the lead role. She'll take the reins of the Kelly Marcel-scripted film, which centers on the BDSM relationship between Christian Grey and the sexually inexperienced Anastasia Steele.

Apparently, Darren Aronofsky was offered the job a month ago but turned it down, and the decision was made to go with a less familiar name. That may turn out to be the plan when it comes to casting the two leads, as well. Emma Watson, Alex Pettyfer, Kristen Stewart, Armie Hammer and most recently Felicity Jones have been rumored, but due to it being such a heavily sexualized tale producers may opt for an unknown. Doubtful Taylor-Johnson would turn to her husband, right? Imagine how awkward those days on set would be.
