Once More with Feeling: Christian Bale Won't Play Batman In 'Justice League'

An inkling of hope has continued to flicker in the minds of some that Christian Bale could maybe don the Batman suit once again as part of Justice League. This has continued despite all evidence to the contrary, and no matter how many times Christopher Nolan and Bale deny any involvement whatsoever, or how many times they say Nolan's trilogy was a standalone effort. Last spring the rumor cropped up again that they both would reunite for Justice League, and while it was eventually debunked, Bale is speaking out on the subject again.

In a an interview with EW, Bale reiterates that he's hung up the cape and cowl for the last time, and that he's looking forward to someone else's take on the Dark Knight....

Bale:“We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy. Chris [Nolan] always said he wanted to make it one film at a time. And we ended up sitting there looking at each other, saying ‘We’re about to make the third.’ We never really knew if we were going to get to be there, but if that was how it was going to be, this was where it should end as well.”

He went on to add with some finality...

Bale:”I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League, that’s it. It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”

So Bale is done as Batman, and as we've heard from screenwriter David Goyer, Warner Bros. is using Man of Steel as a springboard to an all new superhero universe. The question now is, "Now that Bale is done, who do you want to see as Batman?"
