Patrick Wilson Goes to 'Carrion Road'; Dan Akroyd to 'Get On Up'; Carice van Houten is 'Incarnate'
* The always busy Patrick Wilson has signed on to lead The Man on Carrion Road, the next film from Apollo 18 director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego. Based on a script by Nils Lyew, the film has Wilson as a border town sheriff who must team up with the man he replaced to put down a Mexican drug cartel leader brutalizing the residents.
* Funnyman Dan Akroyd has found something else to focus his energies on other than the (never happening) Ghostbusters 3. He'll join Grammy award-winner Jill Scott in coming aboard the James Brown biopic, Get On Up, which features Chadwick Boseman in the lead role. Akroyd will play talent agent Ben Bart, while Scott will take on the part of James Brown's wife in a role designed specifically for her. Directed by Tate Taylor and produced by Mick Jagger, the film co-stars Nelsan Ellis, Viola Davis, Lennie James and Octavia Spencer. [THR]
* Carice van Houten, better known as the flame-haired priestess Melisandre in Game of Thrones, has joined Aaron Eckhart and Catalina Sandino Moreno in the supernatural thriller, Incarnate. The small-budgeted feature follows an unconventional exorcist who must face a demon from his past after it possesses a 9-year-old boy. Van Houten will play the boy's mother. Brad Peyton is directing with the genius minds of Blumhouse Productions hoping to add this to their stable of low-cost blockbusters.
