Breck Eisner to Direct 'The Karate Kid' Sequel
Before Jaden Smith bombed in After Earth, earning himself a Razzie Award in the process, he had scored an unexpected smash with a remake of The Karate Kid. The film starred Jackie Chan, was directed by Harald Zwart, and earned a cool $360M in 2010. Development on the inevitable sequel has been slow going, but now it takes a step forward with Breck Eisner coming aboard to direct.
Eisner, best known for helming The Crazies and Sahara, has come aboard the sequel, but no plot details are available at this time. It's unclear if Zak Penn is still writing the screenplay or if they're starting over with a new draft.
The original Karate Kid sequel opened in 1986 and took the lead characters to Okinawa, but that's unlikely to be the case with the newer version as it already takes place in Beijing. Maybe a return to Detroit is in order? [Deadline]
