There isn't much reason to get excited about Ghostbusters 3, but a small glimmer of promise peeked through when reports surfaced Phil Lord and Chris Miller were being sought for the directing job. The duo had already brought new life to another '80s property in 21 Jump Street, and combined with their success on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and The Lego Movie it just seemed like a fit that could work.
Well, it may have seemed like the right fit on paper, but Lord and Miller must think otherwise, because Jeff Sneider at The Wrap says they've turned it down and other directors are being looked at...
Hearing LORD & MILLER ended up walking away from GHOSTBUSTERS 3 job. They were the studio's choice but wanted to keep their options open...

But, Sneider also leaves the door open for a return. The duo did initially turn down The Lego Movie before coming back to the bargaining table. With no further details we won't know the reasons they bailed. It could be as simple as wanting to move away from established properties for once and do something original.
